Рrofessional competence of polygraph examiners as a subject of psychological discourse

Language: Ukrainian

The author argues that professional competence of a polygraph examiner depends on basic concepts and standards of professional activity. He analyzes different types of questions used in a polygraph tests and uses a differential salience as basic concept of psychological discourse in different polygraph techniques. The author discusses different theoretical frames to determine the best one for the description of testees' reactions during polygraph sessions, proposes ways to explain differences in answers between truth-tellers and liars, analyzes the possibilities of concealed information tests and relevant/irrelevant questions tests as components of polygraph examiners' work. To the author's mind, the concept of salience and, in particular, differential salience, allows making a broad theoretical model to explain a variety of existing approaches in polygraph tests. These fundamental concepts are the basis for acceptable interpretations of various physiological reactions that cannot be explained only by testees'fear or threatening situations, as it takes place within traditional theories. The concept of salience allows taking into account testees' reactions caused by various factors in different of polygraph testformats. It is noted that the concept of differential salience can be used to explain efficiency of basic categories in different approaches to polygraph testing. The author concludes that polygraph examiners'professional competence depends on their mastering of different types of test questions and their interpretations.

Рpsychological training of Ukrainian servicemen: modern scientific approaches, theory, assessment, practice ..

Language: Ukrainian

The character of today's military service necessitates the development of a fundamental lynew mechanism for training military personnel. The role of military personnel's psychological training is extremely important for enhancing the combat capability of the Armed Forces and strengthening the national security of Ukraine. The article deals with the theoretical and applied aspects of modern scientific approaches to Ukrainian service men's psychological training. Having analyzed relevant Ukrainian and foreign publications over the last 15 years, the author focuses on the theoretical principles and effective nesscriteria of servicemen's psychological training. Is noted that the psychological training of Ukrainian military personnel should aim at developing service men's professionalism, professional self-concept, emotional and motivational self-regulation, and stress resistance. A healthy lifestyle is an important component of service men's psychological training. Because of the increasing number of women servicemen, considerable attention should be paid to gender aspects of service men's psychological training. The effectiveness of servicemen's psychological training is determined by the effectiveness of each of the training's component.

Psychological features of high school students' economic self-determination .

Language: Ukrainian

The article presents the results of a theoretical study into high school students' economic self-determination, which is associated with the process of economic socialization. The study has shown that students' economic self-determination (as a type of self-determination) is one of the most important tasks at students' appropriate life stage and is the central mechanism of personal maturity, which is an individual's conscious choice of their role in economic relations.
The author discusses the concept of economic self-determination of the individual and its differences from the content of professional self-determination, despite the similarities of their fundamental personal determinants (basic attitudes to the world, oneself, other people, life meanings). The quality of economic self-determination determines the degree of economic activity of people not only in consumption strategies, but also in the social practice of life organization in general.
It is noted that economic identity can be seen as a form of economic self-determination and can be represented as a point on a well-being scale with wealth and poverty as its poles. This scale has a subjective nature and is based on personal perceptions of wealth and poverty.
The essence of economic self-determination of the individual is manifested in its structure, which has a cognitive, identification, and activity components.
The content of these components allows defining high school students' economic self-determination as an integrative personal formation, which is characterized by their awareness of their economic identity in the context of economic values appropriation and manifested in their designing their economic activity. It is noted that high school students' economic self-determination performs the informative-evaluative, reflexive-meaning, and regulatory-prognostic functions.

Moral foundations of economic self-determination of the individual

Language: Ukrainian

The article considers the moral foundations of economic self-determination, which is realized at the personal level through the moral and value choice of economic self-development. Economic self-determination of the individual is defined as the process of awareness, understanding and realization of his/her role in economic relations guided by the ideas about themselves as active agents of the economy and according to the attitudes to themselves in this role. As a result, individuals form their own strategy of conscious economic behavior, in the process of which they realize their economic interests, meet their needs with a focus on social moral principles and values.
The norms of public morality set the vector of the formation of social qualities of the individual, which are expected and needed by the modern market economy. Morality indicators of the individual's economic activity include his/her ideas about moral regulators in the economic sphere, moral assessment of modern economic phenomena and agents, attitudes towards moral norms in business and interpersonal relations, attitudes towards money, various economic phenomena and ways of economic self-sufficiency, as well as economic identity of the individual, and the individual's subjective economic status. The individual's morality implies the presence in his/her moral consciousness of harmony of the behavioral norms accepted in the social environment and his/her own moral principles. In fact, economic activity (its results and conditions) determines the moral and psychological component of economic self-determination of an individual. The author also analyzes the relationship between the concepts of morality and appropriateness as factors of economic self-determination of the individual.

Socio-psychological patterns of economic self-determination of working students .

Language: Ukrainian

The article analyzes the psychological structure of economic self-determination of the individual as a subjective component of economic socialization, which is associated with his/her awareness and understanding of his/her role in the system of appropriation and use of economic goods. The author discusses the socio-psychological foundations of working students' economic self-determination, whose leading factors are personal well-being and the formation of self, rather than the formation of professional identity.
Work alongside studies has been found to have a positive effect on the formation of students' economic thinking, economic ideas and skills of economic behavior.
A significant role in working students' economic socialization is played by their psychological readiness for economic activity, their economic consciousness, vitality and readiness for independent life. Students' economic self-determination implies their having necessary motivation and such qualities as activity, responsibility, sociability, creativity, persistence, etc. Together, economic socialization and economic self-determination determine the working students' ability to make effective economic activity actors as well as their achievement and socio-economic development motivation, which occurs in parallel with their acquisition of a profession. Self-determination is seen as a relatively independent stage of socialization, which develops individuals' awareness of the purpose and meaning of life, as well as their readiness for independent living based on their desires, personal qualities, capabilities and requirements.

Psychological factors in economic socialization of school students from low-income families .

Language: Ukrainian

The article shows that low-income as an objective deprivation of material and spiritual goods, mediates family members' economic socialization and economic culture, in particular. Family economic culture develops on the economic subjectivity scale mainly in two directions: the low-income individual's culture and the enterprising individual's culture, which significantly affects the economic socialization of school students.
The author analyzes the correlations between economic socialization indicators (attitude to money, level of poverty, and general entrepreneurship) of school students from low-income families and from middle- and high-income families. The family socio-economic status, parent-child relationship style, social adaptability models, self-esteem, activity, level of poverty, and economic attitudes have been shown to directly correlate with school students' economic culture.
Family economic culture brings about statistically significant differences in school students' socialization: at the behavioral and value level, students from low-income families show money-related anxiety, negative feelings and stress peculiar to their low-income parents, whereas students from well-off families show monetary awareness (rational and positive attitudes towards money).

Мanifestations of irrationality in electoral choice ..

Language: Ukrainian

Using questionnaires, interviews and expert assessments, the author examines the psychological features of young voters' justification of their electoral choice. Voter irrational decision-making is described as a common electoral strategy. The advantage of young people's irrational electoral choice is due to their emotional involvement in the electoral process and their lack of competence / awareness, their susceptibility to common myths, common practices, stereotypes and paternalistic system of social functioning. The author argues that the perception of irrationality is based on the premise that goals or results are achieved using a balanced algorithm of sequential actions or steps. At the same time individuals overlook their emotional perception of the goal and each intermediate stage as well as their personal and group experience of the effectiveness of such steps in similar situations, which may affect personal behavior and decisions.
Based on the results of a pilot study, it was found that at least 52 out of 78 decisions (66.67% of the total number of respondents) were irrational. At the same time, out of 52 people who made an irrational choice, 35 people assessed it as reasonable and well-balanced. Such an (illusory) interpretation of their own decisions may be an effect of the myth that only a well-thought-out decision is right and worthy of respect. The results of the pilot study suggest that irrationality is not a dichotomous personal feature, but rather an integrative characteristic of various psychological phenomena, which may manifest as certain psychological effects in choice-making.

Attributive styles of displaced persons .

Language: Ukrainian

Mental health professionals who help displaced persons address a number of different but very similar issues, dilemmas and paradoxes. The past few decades have seen a considerable variety of theories, methods and models that offer a wide choice of approaches to complex psychosocial problems faced by migrants. The author notes that the most important thing for a displaced person is the opportunity to lead a full and meaningful life, despite the traumatic past, extremely difficult present and often uncertain future.
The author emphasizesthe mental health professionals' need of a holistic conceptual system that would allow them to understand complex problems of and cultural differences between displaced persons. Understanding of the interaction of internal (biological, psychological) and external (family, cultural, social, political) positive and/or negative different-level factors can be helpful in assessing the risks and advantages of social environment.
When dealing with displaced persons' family-related issues, mental health professionals often face the following challenges: migrants' reconciling with the past, reorganization of relations within a fragmented family, reformatting roles and statuses in a changed family structure, adaptation to the new environment and setting new goals.
The learned helplessness model over time has been theoretically reformulated to be the basic theory of attributive styles. The author concludes that when examining the links between individuals' attributive styles and various dimensions of well-being, including physical health and endurance, educational and career achievements, depression and/or irritability, it is important to consider the attributive styles in a clinical context.

Рsycho-dynamic approach to teachingclinical (medical) psychology to medical universitystudents .

Language: Ukrainian

The article presents the main provisions of teaching clinical (medical) psychology from a psycho-dynamic standpoint to students of medical and dental departments. The author describes the main course topics and their teaching from a psycho-dynamic perspective paying attention to the structure of the psyche, drive theory and personality development as well as the role of psychological defense mechanisms in the formation of personality and the levels and types of personality and responses to the disease. The author also discusses a psycho-dynamic approach to understanding the doctor's personality and psycho-dynamic mechanisms in the formation of the internal picture of the disease, psychosomatic interactions, and patients-medical staff relationships as well as considers other important topics of medical psychology. The psycho-dynamic approach to teaching the main topics of the discipline is combined with innovative teaching methods, such as business games, case studies, etc. It is noted that this approach bridges the basic theoretical disciplines (general psychology) and clinical disciplines (psychiatry), thus developing students' understanding of the psychological continuum from the norm through various borderline states to unconditional mental disorder. The author emphasizes the effectiveness of the psycho-dynamic approach to studying clinical (medical) psychology in increasing students' motivation to learn and improving their academic performance. The author concludes that knowledge and use of the basic psycho-dynamic principles in clinical psychology expand future doctors' worldview, develop their clinical thinking, and help them master the achievements of world medical science.

The types of narcissism and the main components of self-concept have been studied by a number of Ukrainian and foreign psychologist. Thus, V. Dolgov, A. Koshelev, G. Panfilov, E. Shcheblanov, and others addressed age-specific and profession-specific features of self-concept. K. Ushakova studied formation of the self-concept in students. I. Pogodin, N. Olifirovich, V. Dorozhkin, A. Rostein, Z. Krizan, J. Miller, and A. Dmitrieva studied the narcissistic personality.
The scientific novelty of the article is due to the systematization of the theoretical material of the problem and analysis of the main features of the self-concept of a personality with a narcissistic determinant. The self-concept of an individual is a result of a long process of development, which starts at the birth and lasts throughout life. The modern era is called the era of narcissism, i.e. a typical representative of the XXI century is a person with a strong narcissistic determinant. The study of the self-concept of the narcissistic personality is a necessary component of a holistic study of the psychological world of modern man.

Reflexivity, as psychologists'being the subjects of their own examination, can serve as a heuristic basis that will explain the popularity of psychological and self-control techniques used in groups and individually.
Reflexivity is seen as a cyclical process that consists of reflection, planning, and action/adaptation. The author analyzes the scientific works of S. Rosenzweig, G. Allport, K. Levin and K. Rogers on the problem of reflexivity and emphasizes that reflexivity has a great variety of definitions, which largely depend on the philosophical or methodological approach of definition authors.
The author suggests that reflexivity stems from an interpretive ontology, which views people and the world as interconnected and involved in dialogic relationships that construct multiple versions of reality. Reflexive groups, in comparison to non-reflexive ones, show little attention to group goals, strategies and their work environment. These groups are reactive rather than proactive, and are more likely to use defensive responses to environmental threats.
It is concluded that reflexivity leads to better group innovation, higher group productivity, and improves internal group processes, so groups reflexivity should be promoted to improve group efficiency.

A Program for developing high school students' emotional intelligence using psychological and educational methods

Language: Ukrainian

The realities of Ukrainian society include rather strict requirements for high school students who are on the threshold of adult life. The educational environment, which is undergoing serious reforms, still adheres to the usual principles and focuses mainly on the development of students' cognitive processes, students' preparation for independent external testing and university entrance. Recent research has shown that the emotional component of learning should be actively used when choosing an educational strategy by educational institutions and refocusing it on the multi-aspect nature and emotional component of education. The significance of school students' emotional intelligence was reflected by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine pilot project aimed, which was launched in autumn 2019 to develop students' soft skills SEEN (SEE Learning). The project's chief advisor is Dr. Daniel Goleman, the author of Emotional Intelligence.
The introduction of the Emotional Intelligence Development Program will promote the development of high school students' emotional intelligence as a key personality development factor. The Program includes lectures and practical classes, individual and group psychological support, as well as emotional intelligence development-focused foreign language lessons, etc.
The author proposes a program that can become an effective part of the educational process, which will contribute to the development of successful, active, psychologically healthy high school students. The program consists of twenty-four hours of general work and individual psychological and educational support. The aim of the program is to develop high school students' intra- and interpersonal emotional intelligence, empathy, motivation and self-motivation, as well as stress resistance and adaptability.

Representations of prison subculture among the staff of State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine .

Language: Ukrainian

The service in the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine (SPSU) requires the maintenance of statutory contacts with convicts who are the criminal subculture carriers. The problem is that the criminal subculture opposes both the general legal culture of society and the organizational culture of penitentiaries. It is considered as disapproving and socially unacceptable and at the same time acts as part of the professional environment of prison staff. Therefore, there is a need for research on the likely effects of criminal subculture on both professional and personal lives of prison staff.
The aim of the article is to identify the components of prison subculture and their interpretation by SPSU staff with different functional load (as their representations). The author used the brainstorming, focus groups, expert assessment of the collected material and respondents' self-reports as research methods. The sample consisted of prison staff from different penitentiary institution units (psychologists from social and educational and psychological work departments and operational staff), who acted both as subjects and expert groups.
It was found that the respondents assessed prison subculture in accordance to their professional function: psychologists manifested the risk of ""blurring individual boundaries"" of contact, while operatives - the risk of ""blurring social boundaries"" of contact. It was also found that operatives showed a tendency to stigmatize convicts, while psychologists had a tendency to merge with convicts (""double bottom""), which may promote the development of psychological defense. Further research may focus on convicts? resocialization psychological factors and the creation of a prison staff support system.

Transformation of personality in the process of overcoming life crises .

Language: Ukrainian

The author analyzes the views of Ukrainian and foreign scientists on the mechanisms of overcoming life crises and the phenomenon of personality transformation.
A life crisis is defined as a condition that arises from a problem faced by an individual and which cannot be avoided and resolved promptly in a usual way. This is a struggle of opposites in the process of implementing a life program and a difficulty in implementing the life plan. A life crisis is characterized by certain physiological and psychological symptoms, as the crisis affects all levels of personality (intellectual, emotional, behavioral and socio-psychological). The author describes different classifications and phases of a life crisis (impending, facing, overcoming and transformation) as well as the mechanisms of overcoming life crises and related personality transformations. To the author's mind, an effective way out of a crisis is a progressive personal transformation.
The article describes the structure, stages, mechanisms, types and levels of a life crisis-relevant personality transformation, which is defined as the process and result of a personal change caused by internal or external influences. The result of a personal transformation during a harmonious life crisis overcoming is a change in certain personal characteristics, which contribute to the personal development of the individual. The personal changes improve the individuals' value system, experience, skills, and creativity as well as enrich the forms and means of subsistence and make the individuals aware of their personal changes and their productive self-realization.
